Actor’s Reel
James trained as an actor at the prestigious RADA (the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art) in London alongside fellow students Clive Owen, Kenneth Branagh and Ralph Fiennes.
At the start of his acting career he worked with Kenneth Branagh playing leads in his Shakespeare productions touring the world with The Renaissance Theatre Company (including a run at the Mark Taper Forum, LA), being directed by, amongst others, Dame Judi Dench. He played opposite Emma Thompson in A Midsummer Night’s Dream on stage and alongside Branagh as the King’s brother in the Oscar winning film of Henry V.
James has also worked with Sam Mendes where he played the lead role in Mendes’ theatre production of Brian Friel’s award winning play Translations at the Donmar Warehouse in London’s West End.
He played Sir Michael Gambon’s side-kick in the television series Maigret, Hilary Swank’s father in Charles Shyer’s The Affair of the Necklace, the character of Dylan in EastEnders and Britain’s previous Prime Minister, Tony Blair, in the multi BAFTA award winning film The Government Inspector.
James was nominated as the nation’s Best TV Villain at the British Soap Awards for the role of Dr Harrison Kellor. His story line is also nominated for Best Story Line and the climax murder episode is nominated for Best Single Episode.
Most recently he has appeared in Netflix’s Black Mirror and starred alongside Mark Rylance in the multi award winning Wolf Hall.
